House of Pain

Club: House of Pain

Sponsor: Ursula Pong

Location: S101/S201 (Dojo)

Time: Tuesdays 3 - 4:15

Activity:

House of Pain is different every week- from students leading workouts in areas they’re experts in, to the occasional outdoor workout (you will know true pain), to ‘bootcamp’ circuits with specific exercise equipment.  The club is a consolidation of those who love exercise and those who love the club's sponsor, Ms Pong.   It runs much like a PE class might, circuits of exercises designed to strengthen your muscles and elevate your heart rate.  The girls in the club are of all grades, friendly and welcoming. It’s more of a come-as-you-please club, so nobody can really tell how many sessions you miss- there’s no shame if you can’t make it some weeks (or for a month, whoops). The workouts are always intense and unforgiving, but with them comes a great sense of satisfaction upon completion.  Ms. Pong and the officers make sure to provide us with motivation and determination along the way, keeping us going. Ms. Pong takes a picture of us when we’re done, to post on the group’s Facebook page. It’s a good way to spend a Tuesday afternoon.

Recommendation:

Students join this club for one reason and one reason only: they love exercise.

True to its name, House of Pain hurts both during and after club meetings, but students in this club gain immense satisfaction from that pain.  The club is a mixture of student and teacher-run; student officers run most of the workouts, but when they are absent, Ms. Pong takes over and puts her students through their paces.  Students in this club enjoy banding together with their friends to get fit, and insist that the club wouldn’t be the same without its motivated members.
